"Since on execution, Charles Leclerc has been outdriving him each and every race this year.
"So there he actually needs to view a lot of progress as on level conditions with Leclerc, he is still to some degree away from that point.
"That comes as all in all a shock after last year obviously the vehicle is totally unique so perhaps it requires him greater investment to get in control."
Sunday's race was ostensibly Sainz's best of this season with the Spaniard spending the last 15 laps pursuing Verstappen for the lead.
Verstappen was P1 after a late Safety Car with Sainz having halted for new tires, his elastic five laps more youthful.

"It has been several super-amazing races from Max," Rosberg said. "He is so sure and driving at such an amazing level.
