George Russell accepts Mercedes can "paw back" their deficiency to Red Bull after a "veritable" platform at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Russell began Sunday's 66-lap Spanish Grand Prix from fourth on the matrix, the Briton's best passing presentation of this season.
He yielded preceding the great prix that it would be Red Bull's to win however immovably trusted that Mercedes, having apparently fixed their bobbing issues, could challenge Ferrari for a platform finish.
Russell was given a hand in that as Charles Leclerc resigned from the lead, passing on it to the 24-year-old to shield against the Red Bulls for the race lead.
Yet, while he lost to the Red Bull partners, going too far in third spot behind Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, he was easily in front of the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz.
Considering it a "certified" platform, Russell is persuaded Mercedes are back in the battle.
"Better believe it, certainly," he said. "I feel like this was more authentic.
"I think we have likely split the hole to those leaders, contrasted with the remainder of the time. Also, I think we know there's presumably more exhibition to find."

Mercedes showed up at the Barcelona circuit with a few updates for the W13, including another floor.
That, combined with different arrangements, appears to have settled the group's porpoising issues.
"It's been a time of critical thinking," Russell proceeded, "instead of attempting to track down additional exhibition and carry more execution to the vehicle.
"Furthermore, I think we've currently at long last tackled our issue. Also, we can now zero in on bringing more execution.
"Indeed we're six races behind however there's not a great explanation for why we can't hook this back."
Russell is fourth in the Drivers' Championship on 74 focuses, 36 behind new title pioneer Verstappen while Mercedes trail Red Bull by 75 in the Constructors' standings.
In spite of the fact that he brought his W13 home in third spot, it was a near disaster for Russell with both Mercedes drivers told to lift and drift in the last five laps as their W13 overheated.
