Alfa Romeo settled on the decision to resign Valtteri Bottas' C42 in Saudi Arabia to confident save him from a late-season motor punishment.
Battling for 6th spot at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, the Finn maneuvered into the pits with on lap 46 to resign his Alfa Romeo.
The group affirmed that evening that it was a cooling issue with Bottas trusting that the choice to leave the vehicle saved the motor.
He told F1 TV: "It was a decent race until we saw the issue with the motor temperature, it began to go up.
"It was at first a little ascent in the motor temp yet that it was quick and even with lift and coast and observing tidy air it was going until the motor was in danger of falling flat.
"We resigned the vehicle to not lose the motor, that was the main choice."
Yet again this year the Formula 1 drivers are restricted to three of the Internal Combustion Engine, turbocharger, MGU-H and MGU-K before they cause punishments while the Energy Store and the Control Electronics are restricted to two.
Inquired as to whether his Ferrari power unit would have the option to go into the pool for later in the season, he answered: "I trust thus, ought to be OK however that is the reason we halted. Assuming that we had proceeded, it would have been gone."
Albeit the Saudi weekend finished focuses less for Alfa Romeo, Guanyu Zhou down in eleventh spot after two punishments, Bottas says there are a great deal of up-sides that the group can draw from the end of the week.
