George Russell demands there are no group orders at Mercedes, depicting what is going on as a "level battleground" for he and Lewis Hamilton.
Mercedes are handling an all-British line-up on the Formula 1 lattice this season, with Russell saw as a drawn out prospect at 24 years old in the wake of supplanting Valtteri Bottas.
With immense potential yet nearly little experience of hustling at the front of the field, following three seasons sharpening his exchange further down the request with Williams, Russell's status in the group for the present could be seen similar to a 'partner' to the seven-time previous World Champion.
However, the more youthful of the two countrymen - who completed fourth in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, one spot behind his associate - keeps up with he is allowed to challenge Hamilton on target should an open door introduce itself.
"We are on a level battleground," Russell told the BBC. "There are no group orders, we have equivalent treatment absolutely and they (Mercedes) trust us to go out there and race decently."
As to working association with Hamilton, Russell said before activity got going at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix: "We have an extremely open relationship.
"I think since we are at totally different phases of our vocations there is a truly amazing common regard between us. We both perceive our battle isn't with one another, as it could be in a few different groups.
"As far as we might be concerned, we both need to win yet right now we are not in that frame of mind to have the option to win, so we really want to cooperate and push in a similar heading to ensure our vehicle speeds up."
How long Mercedes won't be "in that frame of mind to have the option to win" is not yet clear as they endeavor to work on the W13, with some exhibition gains being more straightforward to achieve than others.
